Weathering is a natural process which affects all construction materials to a greater or lesser extent. Soft, natural stones in urban environments are especially susceptible. Identification of the causes, and possible solutions, normally requires detailed characterisation of the materials involved and identification of the operative weathering processes. This is achieved through a combination of field examinations and laboratory analyses.
