The techniques that we apply in our investigations include:

•     Particle size analysis (laser granulometry, sieving and direct measurement)

•     Particle shape and surface texture analysis

•     Reflected, transmitted and fluorescence optical microscopy

•     Scanning electron microscopy and x-ray microanalysis

•     Quantitative colour determination

•     Major and trace element analysis (ICP-OES, ICP-MS and XRF)

•     Stable isotope analysis

•     pH, Eh, electrical conductivity, and anion analysis

•     Surface area and pore size analysis

•     Clast lithological analysis and mineralogical analysis

•     Hardness, durability and point-load testing

•     Freeze-drying and oven-drying

In addition to analysis performed in-house, we maintain close links with other specialist laboratories in the UK and overseas.
