The suitability of commercial sands for particular applications is often strongly dependent on their particle size distribution. A number of examples are shown below. Common 'soft' building sand and 'sharp' sand is often poorly to very poorly sorted, while more specific products such as kiln dried sand and play sand should normally have a more tightly defined size grading.
