Damage to paintwork caused by airborne deposition of ash from chimney stack

In a study to determine the cause of damage to vehicle paintwork, contaminants on the surface of the paint were analysed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and x-ray chemical microanalysis.  The cause of the damage was found to be airborne deposition of pulverised fuel ash from a nearby chimney stack.
